And the Marvelous hits just keep on coming! Let’s take a look at some of the latest announcements and rumors involving upcoming projects based on Marvel Comics characters.

Fox Studios:
Fantastic Four (June 19, 2015) – the reboot of the franchise now has an official release date. The cosmic quartet will be played by Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (Invisible Woman), Jamie Bell (the Thing) and Michael B. Jordan (Human Torch). Toby Kebbell will play Doctor Doom. Will there be a Fantastic Four vs. X-Men film?

X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27, 2016) – this will be the next chapter in the mutant film saga. Director Bryan Singer has been finally confirmed for the project, and in a recent Yahoo chat with writer/producer Simon Kinberg, he confirmed that the roles of Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops would be recast with younger actors. There is also confirmation that Hugh Jackman will appear in a new Wolverine film scheduled for March 3, 2017.

Deadpool (February 12, 2016) – Test footage for a film based on the merc with a mouth appeared mysteriously at Comic-Con 2014. Now Marvel has announced a confirmed release date. And although not officially announced, it is a strong probability that Ryan Reynolds, who was Deadpool in Wolverine: Origins, will be the film’s star.

Marvel Studios:
Avengers: Age of Ultron. (May 1, 2015) – the latest on the eagerly awaited sequel is that the television show of Agents of SHIELD will “build up” to Age of Ultron, just as Captain America: The Winter Soldier had strong ramifications for the TV series. The official plot synopsis from Marvel Studios confirms that the story will revolve around Tony Stark’s attempts to start a peacekeeping force going awry. Many images have been released including an eagerly anticipated first look at Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch in action.

Ant-Man (July 17, 2015) – Following the controversy around director Edgar Wright abandoning the project, casting announcements included Paul Rudd as the lead, Michael Douglas as Dr. Henry Pym and Evangeline Lilly as ‘Hope Van Dyne’, Pym’s daughter. Possible villains may include Yellowjacket and a gang known as #TheCrims. A still of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man has been released.
Captain America 3 ( May 6, 2016) – Little is known about this scheduled chapter except for the release date, confirmation of Chris Evans’ return to the role of Cap, hints by Jeremy Renner that Hawkeye may be a supporting player, and that Hydra and Baron Wolfgang von Strucker will be the villains. There is also speculation that it might be Evans’ last time as Captain America. What will that mean for Bucky Barnes?

Doctor Strange – (July 8, 2016) – We wrote previously about casting rumors for Doctor Strange, and how it would fit in with the MCU. Since then we haven’t learned much more, including who will take on the role of the Sorcerer Supreme, although Joaquin Phoenix is apparently still in talks.

Additionally, there are rumors, hints and speculations for sequels to the Thor, Iron Man and Avengers movies, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (which is almost certain to happen). Other speculations, some coming from a slip of the tongue from no less than Stan Lee, indicate we may be seeing solo films for Black Widow, Black Panther, Ms. Marvel and Blade.
